Backup Plan Basics

When assessing your backup plan or searching for a new backup solution, there are two main concepts to understand - Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO). RPO is the point or age of files to recover from backup for normal operations to resume.

RTO is a slightly more critical metric than RPO. It's the duration within which to restore the business processes after. In essence, the RTO is the answer to the question: "How quickly can you get the business running again? ".
